The Recoleta Cemetery was opened to the public in 1822 and as the neighborhood's reputation improved, so did that of the cemetery. Currently, many presidents and historic figures important to Argentine history are buried there. The architectural styles of the tombs range from neo classic to art deco and some have even been declared national historic monuments. Probably the most famous tomb at the cemetery is that of Eva Peron (Evita).
