BUENOS AIRES TRANSPORTATION

SUBWAY

Buenos Aires' subways system consists of five lines (A, B, C, D, and E).  Considering the size of the city, the network still has much to cover, but if you are traveling to specific places, then it is the ideal method of transportation for it is cheap and fast.  If you are close to a subway stop, and are traveling to the Plaza de Mayo, Florida Street, the Obelisk, Plaza San Martin, the Alto Palermo shopping mall, or Retiro station, then it's a good choice.  For the system network map, please visit http://www.metrovias.com.ar.

TAXIS

Taxis are practically everywhere.  The meter starts at ARP$ 3.80 and increases ARP$ 0.38 at a time.  The most common way of tipping a cab driver (not at all obligatory) would be to round up the cost of the trip to the nearest Peso.

TRAINS

The train system is ideal for certain destinations, such as Tigre, or the northern suburbs of the city of Buenos Aires.  The trains toward Tigre leave the Retiro Station near Plaza San Martin.  Another great way to go to Tigre is taking the TREN DE LA COSTA, which leaves near the northern suburb of Olivos, close to the presidential residence (not the Casa Rosada).

AIRPORT TRANSPORTATION

Most flights to Buenos Aires from abroad arrive at the Ezeiza International Airport (EZE), which is located 45 minutes away from downtown, assuming normal traffic.  At Ezeiza, there are a handful of official taxi companies that sell a ride.  These companies are easily recognizable since they have an official stand soon after crossing customs.  It is not recommended to accept a taxi from someone who approaches you at arrival.

There are also bus companies which take travelers at a reduced cost.  The most known company to offer this service is MANUEL TIENDA LEON: http://www.tiendaleon.com.ar/home/home.asp

The domestic airport, known as Aeroparque Jorge Newbery is located in the middle of the city, bordering the river.  A taxi would be the best way to get there.
